The
Joint Military Taskforce Tuesday morning conducted a raid on the
insurgent hideout located at Gayawa village , Ungogo local Government
area of Kano State culminating in the death of two suspected gunmen.
The
combat operation which lasted about one and half hours was a product of
an intelligence build up by the military following the arrest of
fleeing suspects from Maiduguri in Katsina.
However two AK
47riffle were recovered from the fleeing insurgents, while their Nissan
car was equally impounded by the military.
Security sources in
the restive northern commercial city revealed that Nigerians troops came
under
fire by the suspected terrorists at Gayawa villages as explosives
went off within the vicinity.
In a statement issued by the JTF
signed by its Spokesman, Capt Ikediche Iweha and made available to
Vanguard explains that “19 November 2013, at about 0630 hours (6:30 am)
at Gayawa general area of Ungogo Local Government Area. Two terrorists
lost their lives in the resulting shootout with troops. Items recovered
from them include two AK 47 rifles, five magazines, 91 rounds of 7.62
special ammunition, among other items.
Capt Ikediche Iweha stated
“Yesterday, 18 November 2013, at about 1930 hours (7:30 pm), following
intelligence build up, the JTF and personnel of the Department of State
Service, Kano Command mounted a snap check point along Kankara – Sheme
road in Katsina State to intercept fleeing terrorists from operations in
the north eastern axis of the country.
Two terrorists were
intercepted and apprehended on their way to Zamfara State. Two AK 47
rifles, 4 magazines, and 68 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition were
recovered from them in a Nissan Sunny car.
The JTF Spokesman
further explains that “the proactive reactions of the JTF in Kano
continue to deny terrorists freedom of action and from using the State
as a launching pad to launch attacks on other parts of the country”,
adding that “this is as a result of the support the JTF is receiving
from members of the general public”.
Capt Ikediche Iweha while
enjoying members of the general public to continue complimenting the
efforts of the JTF by carrying out thorough checks on the background of
persons who wish to let properties especially in out skirt areas, ttthe
security Agentcy however warned that “the JTF will continue to be
complimented with the destruction of properties terrorists reside in and
the arrests of their owners”.
Capt Ikediche Iweha therefore
called on the urbam dwellers not to relent in the fight against
terrorist elements who are seeking refuge in the state by reporting any
suspicious persons regardless of gender for immediate action to prevent
the loss of lives and properties, stressing that the general public are
enjoined to go about their normal lawful businesses without any fear of
molestations.
