THE governorship candidate of New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, in the
November 16 governorship election in Anambra State, Chief Leonard
Uchendu, was, Sunday, kidnapped at his Umuawulu, Awka South Local
Government Area home town by unknown persons.
Uchendu was the President-General of Umuawulu Town Union before he picked the ticket for the governorship election.
The situation was still unclear at press time. The abductors were yet to contact the family.
However, the AnambraState chairman of the party, Lady Virgy Chukwuogor told Vanguard that the circumstances surrounding Uchendu’s abduction was worrisome.
According
to her, members of NNPC were surprised when the security personnel
attached to the governorship candidate were recently withdrawn, thereby
putting him at great security risk.
She added that despite
complaints to the state Police Command, nothing was done as the
candidate did not have any security operative attached to him before the
abduction.
She explained that the abduction had been reported to
the state Police Commissioner, who had assured of tracking down the
kidnappers.
